Keeping Busy

This week Ashley and I are in Florida for a missions conference at Wellington Presbyterian Church. Sunday was a busy day for us as we had multiple venues in which we shared.

We were able to speak to the adult Sunday school class and share with them about our call to missions and what the Lord is doing in us and through us in Honduras. Then, during the worship service, Ashley led Kid's World - the children's portion of the conference. Also, at the end of the worship service we were interviewed by one of the pastors in front of the whole congregation. In the evening, Ashley taught the kids again and lastly we talked to the youth group about the hard things we face as missionaries.

On Monday morning, both Ashley and I had the chance to speak to students at Wellington Christian School. We have been made available during the school days this week in order to share with the students - many of whom do not know anything about overseas missions.

Tomorrow we will continue with speaking in the school during the day and will be spending the evening with two of the life groups of the church.

So far, the conference has given us many opportunities to share about the exciting ministries we get to be a part of in Honduras. We are also getting the chance to get to know many of the people of Wellington Presbyterian Church.

Concert

Ashley has met with both Marla and Heysol a few times individually in order to start to mentor them. Both of these girls are in high school and come from families that regularly attend church. Both are eager to study English and Ashley is helping them both as part of her time with them.

Gerson is in sixth grade. Kind of... The school that had been meeting in La Fe has stopped getting together. We aren't sure exactly why, but is seems as though the volunteer teacher has better things to do. It has been almost three months since the school has had regular classes. Gerson really wants to finish sixth grade so that next year he can go to high school. I have been able to get together with him a few times to 'tutor' him especially in math. In addition to working on math, I am able to talk with Gerson about life and his beliefs and what he thinks is important.

A ticket to the Concert.
Last night the church we attend had a big outreach concert. Ashley and I took Gerson, Heysol, and Marla with us and they each loved it. Our church just finished a sermon series on the 'super heros' of the Bible, so they used the super hero theme for the concert. They played music and had fun drama with Superman, Spiderman, and Batman and, most importantly, they had a clear presentation of the Gospel. We are so glad that we were able to go and support our church and that these three teenagers could hear the Gospel!

End of Summer

Our summer-team season is now over. Actually, it was over about 2 weeks ago, but I haven't blogged about it. The last church that came to serve in La Fe was Peace Presbyterian Church from Cary, NC. This is the home church of our teammate Shannon. Here is a link to her blog that talks a lot about what this team did while they were here. Also, here is a video:

This summer was our first summer of hosting short term teams and it went great. I am sure we messed some things up, but we have learned a lot. We feel that this summer was very beneficial to our ministry in La Fe and will help to grow it over the long term. Through the construction projects and medical clinics we were able to meet and get to know more people in La Fe than we probably would have otherwise. Thanks be to God for this!

We did not get the chance to really get to know many of the people we met this summer due to our very busy schedule. So, that is part of what we will be doing in the coming weeks and months. We have now been serving in La Fe for almost 8 months and want to 'dig deeper' with the people. Both Ashley and I are setting up one-on-one meetings with people so we can get to know them better and learn more about what the Lord is doing in their lives.
